Dollars for Doves Annual Fund
A Special Note for This Year's Annual Fund
Each year a number of social events are sponsored by the PTA to help us to raise money, and build community at our school. As a result
of the unprecedented circumstances brought on by COVID-19, some of these events are postponed or cancelled. We are trying to plan ways
we can stay together apart, and raise money through virtual and/or stay-at-home events.
As a result of COVID-19 forcing us to cancel some of our most popular, and highest-grossing fundraising events we need donations more
than ever. We want to emphasize the greater need this year for donations to Dollars for Doves.
We also know families, including our own, are dealing with extraordinarily challenging circumstances brought on by COVID-19.
We encourage every family to make a donation to the Dollars for Doves Annual Fund in the amount that is right for their family.
Our goal for this year is 100% participation. You can make a one time donation, or consider making a recurring monthly donation. There is no such things as a donation that is too small. Anything helps and every dollar is put to important use for our school, students, and staff.
We thank you for any contribution you are able to make.

WHAT IS THE ANNUAL FUND?
The Annual Fund, or "Dollars for Doves," is our biggest fundraising effort. This fund does not include grant funding or money raised during special events. Services like teacher aides and education enrichment programs do not exist without the necessary financial offset provided by Dollars for Doves. Past academic enrichments paid for by the Annual Fundr include arts, music, robotics, garden programs, and so much more.
WHY IS THE ANNUAL FUND SO IMPORTANT
Contrary to popular belief, public education is not free. Dahlia Heights - like all public K-12 state schools - receives certain funding from California state taxes and a capped contribution from property taxes and other local sources. There is a shortfall, however, between the funding given to our school and the expenses incurred by our quality educational programming. Dollars for Doves makes up the difference so that critical services are available to all our students.
SPECIAL BENEFITS FOR DONORS
Donors who give charitably to Dollars for Doves may be able to claim deductions on their tax returns. Each time a donor contributes to Dollars for Doves, they not only help the school, but they also feel a sense of philanthropic pride and a sense of belonging. Many employers match donations, and we encourage you to check with your employer to see if your contribution can go even further and receive a corporate match. Dahlia Heights Elementary PTA is a tax-exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; EIN# 95-6204167.

What We Fund
The PTA’s largest expense every year is our support for Teacher Assistants. Teacher Assistants at Dahlia are essential to the quality of instruction, safety, and supervision of our students.
While LAUSD provides arts programming for the third through sixth grades, last year the Dahlia Heights PTA supported music and dance instruction for all our other grades as well.
Last year, the Dahlia Heights PTA provided each grade with funding to cover the cost of buses and admission fees for field trips. Each grade gets to take at least one field trip per year. Our Dahlia 6th graders participate in a week-long educational camp each spring, and this is funded by the PTA as well.
garden RANGER PROGRAm
The Garden Ranger Program has become a cornerstone of the Dahlia Heights school community. Children benefit from a collaborative effort between parent volunteers and our EnrichLA Garden Ranger, who is paid for through the Annual Fund.
While LAUSD provides music programming for the third through sixth grades, last year the Dahlia Heights PTA supported music and dance instruction for all other grades as well.
The robotics program for the 5th and 6th grades teaches practical reasoning and problem solving that kids don’t even realize they are learning because they’re having so much fun!
In recognition of our teachers, administration, and other staff, the PTA organizes a staff luncheon, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more to say thank you to all the amazing people who make our school such a special place.
Community members and parents from various occupations present to our students, discussing their career. The PTA sponsors refreshments, and organizes the event.
Growing research shows that school-based yoga improves students’ mind-body awareness and self-regulation, and that physical fitness leads to improvements in classroom behavior and academic performance. Dahlia’s yoga program is an important part of our enrichment curriculum.
