Dollars for Doves
What We Fund
The Dollars for Doves Annual Fund is the combined yearly financial commitment that our families make to help pay for expenses not covered by the state funding Dahlia receives as a public school. Services like Teacher Assistants, Social Justice programming, robotics, and a variety of other enriching academic programs for our students would not exist without the necessary financial offset provided by Dollars for Doves.
The PTA’s largest expense every year is our support for Teacher Assistants. Teacher Assistants at Dahlia are essential to the quality of instruction, and to the safety and supervision of our students.
While the LAUSD provides arts programs for the third through sixth grades, last year the Dahlia Heights PTA supported music and dance instruction for our other grades
Last year the Dahlia Heights PTA provided each grade with funds to cover the cost of buses and admission fees for field trips. Each grade gets to take at least one field trip a year. Our Dahlia 6th Graders participate in a week-long adventure of outdoor science discovery program each Spring.
garden RANGER PROGRAm
The garden program has become a cornerstone of the Dahlia Heights school community. Children benefit from a collaborative effort between parent volunteers and our EnrichLA Garden Ranger to make this program happen.
While the LAUSD provides arts programs for the third through sixth grades, last year the Dahlia Heights PTA supported music and dance instruction for our other grades.
The robotics program for the 5th and 6th grades teaches practical reasoning and problem solving that kids don’t even realize they are learning because they’re having so much fun!
In recognition of our teachers, administration, and other staff, the PTA organizes a staff luncheon and other gestures to say thank you to all the amazing people who make our school such a special place.
People in various occupations present to our students, discussing their career. The PTA sponsors refreshments and organizes the event.
Growing research shows that school-based yoga improves students’ mind-body awareness and self-regulation–and that physical fitness leads to improvements in classroom behavior and academic performance.
